Gobble the Cobble

Gobble the Cobble

Maple Canyon in central Utah is a conglomerate of sedimentary rock and "cobbles" embedded in a soft sandstone matrix. These cobbles are rounded, indicating that the canyon was once underwater. A very unique climbing experience indeed. You never know what to expect from the next hold. Let's just say it takes some getting used to!

The Canyon is very beautiful, especially in Autumn when we were there. Weekdays were quiet; the campground fills up on the weekends though. Rock quality is ok for the most part; the climbs are either glossy or chossy. We lucked out weatherwise, warm and sunny days and cool nights. Very dry air, which dries out your nose. The climbing is pretty far from any major town, make sure to bring enough water and groceries.

Bryce Canyon, I don't know. Twenty dollars' entrance fee... it's way overpriced for an otherwise beautiful place. It should not cost this much just to look at nature.

All in all, a very nice and memorable trip... now I have to get used to being in LA again. Yuk!
