Santa Barbara

Obviously A LOT of people from Los Angeles went daytripping to Santa Barbara. We headed up into the mountains, away from the tourists and noise to enjoy the wilder side of this beautiful slice of California. We passed a number of vineyards, ranches and cattle on the way to our incredible camp site. Minimal noise, no crowds, heaven. Down in the city we made the obligatory visit to the Mission and the Rose Garden where we had a picnic lunch. Ask Frank about our Toss-The-Acorn-Into-Frank's-Shoe game: apparently I'm a lousy shot even when the Birkenstock is 4 feet from where I'm sitting.

Because I'd never been there before, we took a side trip to Solvang. Even if you bribed me with money I'll never go back to that tourist trap EVER. High on the kitsch scale, and way low on everything else. This supermall masquerading as an authentic Danish village was depressing. I did, however, nail a couple of beautiful postcard shots.
