We spent half of Saturday at Beach City Rocks for a climbing comp. No surprise, there were lots of kids and parents (and some were annoying--the parents, that is), and the gym was crowded. Frank put up a few climbs during the week and gave a running commentary while the competitors climbed his routes... I was a little disappointed that there weren't enough women climbing, and none of them led. It would have been good to see some women giving the guys a run for the money. (Didn't enter, as I didn't want to dislocate another joint. Good excuse, huh?) Our BCR kids did well, I thought. The last and most difficult two climbs were exciting, with one kid and Super Steve making it almost to the top of the second to the last. No one got off the deck on the last, which is unfortunate, because it would seem that that route was either a crazy boulder problem or harder than a 13b (Frank's opinion). Anyway, good show; maybe better next year.

› USA Climbing Comp slideshow/ I thought about fixing color because of the indoor lighting, but in the end I chose not to because it gives a nice rough look. In a nutshell the climbers in the photos are: Ryan, Stephen, Christine, 2 climbers from other gyms, and Steve.
