Owens River Gorge
Went North last weekend with friends for some climbing. We traveled in luxury, Winnebago style! It was incredibly roomy, and had all the amenities of home: kitchen, bathroom and bedroom. It was a nice change from our usual packing of STUFF; all we had to bring was food, sleeping bags and gear. Saturday we climbed in the Lower Gorge, my first time there. There were some good climbs, in particular the 10d that I went on. My elbow was fine on it; I think I'm back to where I was pre-injury. Frank and Jon climbed this bare 11c/d, made even more exciting by the fact that in the middle of climbing came cold winds, rain, and snow! It only lasted for about a half-hour at the most, but it made for interesting climbing. The only part of the lower area I didn't like was the looooong walk back up an over a mile-long uphill. That night everyone (9 plus one dog) crammed into the 'Bago for dinner. Gotta love it! Sunday was spent at the Upper Gorge. It was a beautiful, sunny day. Didn't feel like climbing that much, but I took the camera up with me and took some cool shots. We also tried an 11a chalkfest. Every hold was covered in chalk, and I coughed and sneezed my way up. Hated it. Felt lazy afterward so we had a picnic lunch. Felt even lazier afterward and decided to pack up and head home. Loved the hike back up: short and steep. All in all, a nice climbing weekend at the Gorge. › Owens River Gorge slideshow 1 Not pictured: Mando, Rennie, Scott and Nelee the dog, all busy climbing, not slackers like the rest of us... The last 5 pictures are of me climbing. Yes, I climb and this is evidence. Thanks to Armando Lee for pictures. |
