Cobble? Shmobble!
June 9, 2004
Maple Canyon Part II: Climbing and Hiking. (Here's Part I.)We had 4 good days of climbing with cold, then wet, then sunny weather. The campsite was packed for the Memorial Day weekend, and we were lucky to have snagged the last one. Everyone did at least one redpoint/flash; Deanna redpointed her first 11a on lead! › Cobble? Shmobble! slideshow On day one we started off in Box Canyon the first day with warm-ups in the front section, then moving on further inside for harder climbing. Day two began at That-wall-on-the-left-side-of-the-bridge. Despite the hail (10 minutes' worth of tiny cold bullets) we continued climbing, moving to the back for warmer rock and sunshine. Then back to Box Canyon, where it's frickin' cold and the sun don' shine. As if that wasn't enough, we hiked the Viewpoint Trail which is about a mile, all uphill, but the breathtaking view was well worth it. Next day, Sunday: shops in Provo didn't open until 12 noon, after temple (I'm assuming). It's a beautiful place with the Nebo mountain range in the background. Climbed in Zen Garden and hiked the Arch Loop Trail so we weren't useless the whole day. The Low Standard Cave was conveniently 30 seconds from our campsite, isn't that great? We climbed for half the day at which point Brandon, Deanna and Joe took off. I did some knitting (of course) and then we took another hike, this time the Straight-on-the-dirt-road Trail. About 1.6 miles later we reached the top. You could see everything on both sides of the ridge: flat farmland, turkey farms, beautiful green plains, mountains (some with snow). It's too bad that on Tuesday we had to pack up and drive home. Anyone for a Maple Canyon: Part III? |
