In May we had strawberries and rhubarb. In July we're enjoying nectarines, apricots, plums, and peaches. In June, we had cherries. Oh, the cherries!

Lucky us, we have our own cherry tree. We watched the fruit turn from little green nubs to bright red marbles to dark red juicy fruit, bursting with flavor. Nothing tastes better than eating cherries right off the tree.

Nothing better, that is, except when my sweet husband climbs up the rickety ladder to pick a happy red bowlful for mememememe.

And later, when we had our fill of fruit (and stained enough shirts and tea towels), we made cherry jam. Red as rubies, with a smell you can only imagine. Best on fresh-baked bread from the local baker, with a scant layer of organic peanut butter (must stay in climbing form), it makes even the dreariest of rainy days a little less grey.

◊ Cute knit booties, but 28 quid? I can knit them easy. Right-clicking on the left two pictures activates the Flash module so you can scroll around in them. Looks like the soles are knit (knitted? knat?) first, then you knit around the uppers, making decreases at the front corners and ankles. But you have to maintain the straight side at the back of the heel, so you make increases there. Keep in this manner until there are no more side stitches, then knit a cuff with the heel stitches. Very nicely done. Will I try knitting a pair? Maybe. Maybe there are more friends' babies in the future.
