Last Sunday, Eduard and Christa took us to the Nuremberg Christkindlesmarkt. I was looking forward to it, as it would be my first time ever. It didn't disappoint What a feast for the eyes!

If I were a kid I'd go crazy wanting everything at the stalls.

Of course, being on Sunday, it was crowded with families. There is a special market for the little ones, with a carousel ride (check out the funky pig) and a mini Ferris wheel.

In another square was a market for all of Nuremberg's partner cities.

We sought out the drei im Weckla when we were hungry. That was good. It needed a bit of lettuce, maybe a slice of tomato. I just have to say this: what have Germans got against vegetables?!?!?

Frank was still hungry, so he went for a fleischküchle, which can be roughly translated as a hockey puck-sized pork patty. It was too much for me. Urgh. I had the corn on the cob instead.

I can't leave out the glühwein, which is the traditional drink of mulled wine. There are different kinds: the "regular" wine, the kirsch (cherry), and the heidelbeer (blueberry). I tried the kirsch version, which proved to be too strong for me; luckily there was kinder punsch (mulled apple cider) everywhere!

The zwetschgenmännle are traditional; Frank remembers making these when he was little. This has got to be one of the strangest traditions I've ever seen, making little dolls out of prunes and figs. Cute, but strange.
